Performance

Top Speed- If you are commuting in a city or riding amongst pedestrians you may find it uncommon to reach the top speed of your eScooter. In most cases the legal speed limit does not exceed 20 mph and 15mph can feel pretty fast.

Motor Power- The range of your vehicle and how well it handles an up hill battle all depend on motor power. Options range between 200w and 2400w. Recommendations are 250w for commuting on flat surfaces, 300w-500w for small hills and >500w for medium hills and up.

Brakes- safety should be a priority when choosing an eScooter. There are 4 types of braking systems to choose from:

Electronic Brakes- The motor performs the braking (poor stopping power / not recommended)

Foot Brakes- Foot presses on rear wheel fender (weak stopping power / not recommended)

Drum Brakes- Brakes located in wheel hub and are consistent even in wet conditions (recommended)

Disc Brakes- greatest stop power and lightest weight (recommended)

Rider Weight- the speed and range of your eScooter will decrease the closer you get to the limit.

IP Rating- determines your eScooters resistance to dust and rain.

0 no resistance

1- 3 limited resistance

4-6 high resistance

Rider Experience

Price- Commuter eScooters range from $300-$1200+

Weight- It is important to consider how often and how far you will be carrying your eScooter. Most commuter eScooters are at least 25pounds.

Tires- Tires play a large role in determining the smoothness of your ride. Air tires, with or without an inner tube, will yield a much higher quality experience when compared to the solid tires found primarily on low budget options.

Suspension- Suspension will also contribute to a high quality riding experience. Spring and piston suspension are highly recommended for rough and bumpy surfaces.
